Joanie Piccard, a former radio personality and writer, has a full and interesting life. In addition to her own pursuits, she was formerly married to a hot air balloon pioneer and had many interesting adventures in the air. When she fell and broke her arm recently, she knew that being active and positive about the situation was the only way to forward, and becoming a resident at Merwick Care & Rehabilitation Center reinforced this. After being at Merwick for a year, she has seen amazing progress in her physical ability through daily rehabilitation sessions.
“I don’t give up easily,” she said. “I could hardly move this hand at all, and now it’s good.” Currently, she is working on healing her broken leg and just “trying to get better.” When Joanie is not working hard on her rehab workouts, she is enjoying all that Merwick has to offer. She follows the activities schedule that each resident is given daily and enjoys being active with her friends. Her favorite things to do are watch the movies they screen in the theater and play bingo.
